Coach Geno Auriemma

Coach Geno Auriemma expressing his opinion.

Geno Auriemma has redefined the meaning of success in college basketball in his 25 years as head coach of the University of Connecticut.

During his illustrious tenure, Auriemma has transformed the UCONN program into the standard that all others are measured, both on and off the court. On the court, the Huskies have grown from a program with only one winning season, to its current state, which includes six national titles, 10 Final Fours, three perfect seasons (1995, 2002, 2009) and 32 BIG EAST titles. Off the court, success means a flawless, 100 percent graduation rate and one of the most beloved and followed sports teams in the country.

This unmatched success was recognized with Auriemma's induction into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (Springfield, Mass.) and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame (Knoxville, Tenn.) in 2006.

In addition, Auriemma was recently bestowed with one of the biggest honors someone in his profession can receive as he was named as the head coach of the U.S. National Team, which will compete in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.

Off the court Coach Auriemma and his wife are tireless in their pursuit to find a cure for cancer. In 2007 they joined The V Foundation for Cancer Research team - where 100% of new cash donations go to cancer research. Coach and Kathy have orchestrated a youth initiative, Geno’s Cancer Team” that incorporates every aspect of the word "team" in their personal endeavor to raise money for the V Foundation. Coach Auriemma is currently the President of the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) The WBCA has also joined The V Foundation team in their women's health initiative, The Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Fund. Coach is as tenacious in his fund raising efforts as he is about winning games; and expects to beat cancer as well!
